2018 started out with the Everglades tours as good as it gets. Record water levels have dropped, leaving plenty of fish for thousands of wading birds. Gators happier too. Airboat to Miccosukee tree island still without much wildlife, but Big Cypress is unbelievable. Warning: The best bird spots have been farther west, causing the 5 hour trip to run over 30-60 minutes.
5 hour includes:
Miccosukee airboat to their tree island about 40 mnutes
Back road where there are plenty of alligators up close
Big Cypress National Preserve where wildlife increases dramatically
Clyde Butcher gallery in the heart of BIg Cypress w short trail Ranger station and many other gator spots
- Miccosukee Airboat ride to a tree island where Miccosukee lived for generations
- Several stops in Big Cypress
- Clyde Butcher Photo Gallery with short swamp trail behind
- Private airboat available with upgrade. Private airboat worth upgrade but limited available times. 24 hour advance notice required. Scenery borders Big Cypress, so slightly different from tree island.
FACTS ABOUT THE EVERGLADES ADVENTURE
NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURE
The tree island we dock on is part of the many hammocks rich in Native American culture where only Miccosukee are allowed to operate in this area. This area is completely natural, no man-made canals interfere with the water flow. Tour covers Calusa, Tekesta, Seminole and Miccosukee tribes
No Animal Show
If your ideal Everglades trip is getting a selfie of you and a baby alligator with its mouth taped shut, I am not the guide for you.
This tour focuses on wildlife in Big Cypress, not in a cage. And Native American heritage, Calusa, Tekesta, Seminole and Miccosukke. Everything they hid from us in our history books. The Miccosukee consider the Everglades their mother that saved them from the US Army’s genocide.
BIG CYPRESS NATIONAL PRESERVE
Big Cypress is where wildlife increases dramatically, beginning just 5 minutes west of our airboat. Its crazy that most tour operators don’t take the extra time.
WHY IS MY TOUR DIFFERENT
WE TAKE OUR TIME
Incredible other operators don’t take the extra 10 minutes to continue on to Big Cypress National Preserve! All that that time other operators take picking up guests and changing buses waste time. Our shared tours have 2-3 pickups max, not 10 stops, and never a change of bus.
5 QUALITY STOPS
If you are looking for an animal show where you can take a selfie of you and a baby alligator, I am not your guide.
Wildlife flourishes in Big Cypress National Preserve because it is the last part of the wildlife corridor. We see plenty of gators, hundreds in the dry season, dozens in the rainy season, on the back road. Also part of Big Cypress but harder to see are the rebounding bear and panther populations. The back road is also one of the best spots on the Florida Birding Trail.
